Right before the arch in Washington Square Park are two musicians, one dressed in flannel pajama pants, a fur coat, and work boots, holding an unlit cigarette between their lips while finger picking an acoustic guitar. The other plays alongside them, dressed in chinos and a dress shirt, wielding a cello. They are both plugged into the same amp although the distinct and more varied sound of the acoustic guitar dominates over the bowed stringed instrument.

It isn't until the guitarist breaks their picking pattern that the low sound of the cello rises to the forefront of the music. Although before them lies a music stand, it is seemingly empty of sheet music, both of them instead glance around the park while playing a relaxing tune.

Independent of one another, any onlooker might be quick to make assumptions about the two musicians however, their music perfectly complements one anothers and pleasantly entertains those who care to listen. As their setup spreads out pervasively under the iconic architecture, they position themselves as a testament to how the unique individuality of each New Yorker contributes to the overarching identity of the city.
